2026 Workshops • Pastels

Each workshop participant will receive a SEASON PASS to the Laguna Art-A-Fair for each workshop they attend. Tickets can be picked up at the ticket seller’s booth anytime after you purchase a workshop. All workshops are 4.5 hours per session, from 10:15 am to 2:45 pm. Open to individuals 16 and older, unless otherwise specified (12-15 permitted with parent/guardian participation.) All materials are provided (except as noted). Workshop fees are non-refundable. A beginner-friendly guide to painting with pure pigment

Learn what pastels are, the softness and hardness of the different brands, the wide variety of papers used for wet and dry application and which yummy colors to use as there is no paint mixing! Pastel is a very forgiving medium and composition tips will be shared on starting a painting, how to create depth in a landscape as well as what to do with an area not working and how to make changes.

Learn to see color differently—and paint with confidence

This workshop explores the many aspects of color through pastel, a “no-mix” medium that naturally emphasizes seeing and using value to build depth and vibrancy. Designed for both beginners and intermediate artists, it strengthens your ability to choose and layer colors effectively without relying on blending.
