All exhibitors are required to perform a 5-hour work shift each week the show is open (4.5 hours on Sunday). Your given shift will be on the same day and at the same time each week for the duration of the show. If you do not wish to do the shift yourself you have two options: hire someone to do the shift for you or pay LAAF in advance ($950.00) to hire a substitute on your behalf. If you hire someone personally, you are responsible for paying them directly. The substitute will be assigned a 5-hour shift and must attend the training session for that job. Substitutes must be at least 16 years of age and must be pre-approved. They will be expected to show up for work on time and abide by the LAAF rules. If they miss a shift, you will be charged as LAAF will need to hire someone to replace them.
If you need a temporary substitute you must let your Grounds Manager know ahead of time. You are responsible for making arrangements for the substitute to cover your shift and must pay them directly (a list of approved substitutes available for hire will be posted). The recommended minimum rate is $95/shift. If LAAF has to hire someone to cover for a missed shift, you will be charged $100.00 per incident. All substitutes must have attended the annual training session for their particular job.
Responsible for ensuring all people entering LAAF have an appropriate ticket. Being pleasant and able to greet customers and answer questions about Laguna Art-A-Fair is very important. Duties include recording the type of ticket used for entry, and giving attendees an Exhibitor Guide, along with a restaurant menu and visitor survey.
Note: Ticket Takers will utilize a laptop so experience with computers is required.
Responsible for wrapping/packaging purchases. Good phone skills to answer queries for information and being able to handle the loudspeaker are priorities. Must be able to multi-task, work quickly and efficiently, and keep work area clean and clutter-free. In addition to the normal morning and afternoon shifts, on Saturday and Sunday there is one mid-day shift available.
There are three Security positions in each work shift – Entry, Roving, and Back Gate. Good physical mobility is a must. The Grounds Manager may rotate assignments to the three positions throughout the shift. Entry Security responsibilities include being pleasant and able to greet customers and answer questions about Laguna Art-A-Fair, preventing unauthorized entry, handling backpack/large bag check in and out, and checking packages upon exit. Roving Security responsibilities include keeping the grounds presentable, helping customers with taking purchases to the cashier, watching for theft, and assisting the Grounds Manager with a variety of tasks. Back Gate Security responsibilities include ensuring that LAAF parking spaces are only used by those assigned them and preventing unauthorized people from entering LAAF.
The Street Kiosk is a small booth that sits on the sidewalk directly at the front entrance of the Art-A-Fair. The “greeter” who works this booth does a very important job as the public’s first impression of LAAF. Applicants must be very out-going, personable, people-oriented and interactive, and willing to engage passersby and encourage them to visit Art-A-Fair. A good working knowledge of LAAF is crucial.
Saturday only (10:00-4:00). Responsibilities include setting up and taking down the pop-up tent and display outside the entrance to LAAF and coordinating artist participation in the display. This includes:
Making announcements over the loudspeaker to inform artists the tent is ready for hanging artwork and when artwork needs to be removed for breakdown,
Assisting participating artists with hanging and removing their work,
Assigning 10-30 minute tent staffing assignments and explaining staffing responsibilities (using the greeting script and enforcing the “no photos of artwork” rule).
During the day, need to be on-call in case artists forget their staffing assignments, and remind them to staff the tent.
Saturday and Sunday only (11:00-4:00). Responsibility is to demonstrate the creation of your art in the small pop-up tent next to the Street Kiosk. Must be outgoing and people-oriented, and willing to engage passersby to explain your work and creative process. Only for those artists whose artwork can tolerate sun and wind exposure.
This is the “in charge” position for the shift. Grounds Managers are responsible for running a smooth and efficient work shift, supervising Security and Street Kiosk positions, overseeing the Street Kiosk, and assisting the Workshop Instructors as needed with setup and breakdown. Must have good problem-solving, people, and time-management skills. This position requires an interview with the Business Manager before assignment.
Mon- Sat AM shifts are 10-3pm, PM shifts are 3-8pm
Sun AM shifts are 10-2:30pm, PM shifts are 2:30-7pm
MID shifts on Sat & Sun for Wrapper are 12-5pm
Kiosk shifts are 10-3pm & 3-8pm on Sat, 10-2:30pm & 2:30-7pm on Sun. Weekday shifts (Mon-Fri) are flexible, based on evaluating walking traffic flow (10-3, 11-4, 12-5 or 1-6).
All workers are required to arrive 15 minutes prior to shift start times.
In order to maintain a consistent and recognizable presence, Grounds Managers, Security (Customer Relations), and Ticket Taker positions are expected to wear a “uniform” of black pants/skirt/long shorts and white collared shirt (polo style is acceptable and most popular). Security and Grounds Managers must wear the provided identification badge. All workers of all tasks must wear close-toed shoes
We will do our best to give you a shift of preference. However, there are no guarantees that you will get any of your choices. You (or your substitute) must attend any training sessions required for your shift. Training Day will be held Saturday, June 20, 2026. Shift assignments are made on a first-come-first-served basis (not by seniority).
