Artists Answer Art-A-Fair Call
February 16, 2009 – Laguna Beach, California – Artists recently flocked to the Boys & Girls Club to participate in the jurying process for this summer’s Art-A-Fair. Over 100 hopefuls submitted their original work in two and three-dimensional media ranging from sculpture to jewelry, mosaics, photography and paintings. Celebrating its 43rd season this year, the show will run nine weeks, from June 26 to Aug. 30.
Artists traveled from Southland counties as well as many other states, including Arizona, Idaho, Florida, Louisiana and Missouri.
After all the applications were processed, the nine-person jury -- consisting of professional fine artists and master craftsmen -- spent most of the day viewing art previously submitted by email, and that which was brought in that morning. Each entrant can submit up to three original pieces, and jurors use a point system that rewards excellence in conception, execution and presentation.
Vicki Burkhard, Vice President of Marketing for AAF, said, “Once again, the quality of work we saw was truly outstanding. And the range of media and style was quite diverse. Our reputation as a summer venue for fine art and artists continues to expand outward with each passing year.”
Burkhard continues, “This year’s festival celebrates our exhibitors and their creations, which allow visitors to ‘See the World Through An Artist’s Eyes’. In spite of the overall economic downturn, we’re looking forward to a great season!”
