Jangwon Lee
Northridge, CA
About Jangwon Lee As an artist, my dream is to revitalize my identity. When approaching art, I always hold in my mind this line from a poem I read in college as an art student: 'My soul is a blind man wandering the wide, endless plain shrouded in a dark summer cloud, in search of the place where its one love has gone, the love it was born with.'(Author unknown) I attempt to create art by re-presenting in modern terms traditional patterns and designs found in my Korean heritage to express my reflections upon my experiences. My background in industrial and graphics design also deeply influences my style. More recently, I have experimented with combining my artwork with digital media. Until now, my artwork has primarily been shown in the annual Southern California Hong-ik University Alumni Exhibitions.? Born in Taegu, South Korea, Jangwon earned his B.F.A. in industrial design from Hong-ik University, an art college in Seoul. After college, he worked as Head of Designers in the Sales Promotion and Advertising Department of the Korean Airlines head office until his immigration to the United States. While in this position, he had the opportunity to travel to many of their overseas offices in order to supervise the design of sales offices and their booths at trade expos. After arriving in the US, he worked for twelve years at Hughes Helicopters and Rockwell International as a senior illustrator/senior graphics artist. He currently operates an art and framing business and plans to eventually devote himself more exclusively to his art. |
